I just took my 2 1/2 yr. old to a counseling center. He's always on the go, doesn't want to sleep or eat hardly. He is also very angry and throws himself to the floor when he doesn't get what he wants. He is also hitting and striking others. When he was born he hardly slept, then always cried; nothing I did then or now sooths him. It's not the terrible 2s. I'm not a panicking first time mom; this is my second child. I've had 2 daycares quit on me because he too much to handle. Please E.Mail me back -- I need info on Ritalin. I'm also getting a second opinion. The visit only lasted 1/2 an hour.

I'd feel very uneasy with an ADD diagnosis in a 2 1/2 year old no matter how difficult he is. I strongly suggest you get some help for yourself in dealing with your son. I'm certain his personality is quite a problem for him and you, but I don't think that this or any other medication will be a long term substitute for his learning how to cope with his personality. He'll need your help to learn to come to terms with it. Try to find a child specialist who will work with you (and his father if he's around) more than spending time with your son or medicating him. Iíve seen results as dramatic and probably more long lasting when the parents have figured out how they can successfully manage their child. Read about Deke and the Emphatic No! in Running on Ritalin.
