My experience with the Doctors Show highlights the Mephistophelean bargain any professional makes when they do media. On one hand as the expert, you are influencing many more people on TV than in your office but you are often simplifying to an extreme black and white to make a point in a limited period of time. You also do not have overall control of the medium so other messages may go out that you do not endorse. Some of that happened on the Doctors Show. But overall I was glad to be on the program. I was able to twice say that immediate release stimulant medications like Ritalin or regular Adderall should not be prescribed. Rather long acting Concerta, Adderall XR or Vyvanse are both safer and lead to a more organized life-style than the immediate release preparations.
